CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Hyannis man arrested for playing golf naked in public…
HYANNIS – A young couple were out bird watching when they were interrupted by a naked man playing golf in the outfield of a public softball field on Old Colony Road.
Reportedly, there were also children in the area when this occurred…
A witness quickly took out his cell phone camera and documented the scene.
The boyfriend and girlfriend who witnessed the spectacle wished to remain nameless, but allowed HN to capture their eyewitness video directly from their cellphone.
A HN camera was rolling when police arrived and entered the woods beyond the ballpark’s right field fence. Just beyond that fence, a patrolman encountered a homeless camp. After a brief search, the patrolman walked out of the woods with the prime suspect.
Police were then able to identify the suspect from witness statements and video.
Robert Ide, age 57, of 64 Pleasant Street in Hyannis, was arrested and charged with Open & Gross Lewdness. Ide was also held in protective custody for being intoxicated…
This comes at a time when Hyannis has a growing homeless problem, with an unprecedented number of individuals living in wooded areas throughout our town, often near ballparks and schools…
These “homeless camps” encroach on family neighborhoods and the public should always be leery of these locations for a litany of reasons. These camps do not have bathrooms and the woods have become littered with human waste and unsanitary rubbish. There is often heavy drinking and violence in these camps. The woods have also become a dumping ground for uncapped hypodermic needles.
It’s not safe for children to be anywhere near these camps, which unfortunately are closer to family neighborhoods than in previous years. HN will be doing more on this subject and will illustrate the conditions and dangers these camps pose for our children and families.
The following video highlights today’s arrest of a man who carelessly and openly exposed himself to anyone who was in the area. It has highly edited eyewitness video along with HN coverage of the arrest. Despite being “sanitized,” some may still find the video disturbing and viewer discretion is strongly advised.

Above photo: An uncapped hypodermic needle found right out in the open at today’s scene. Small children were at risk of being contaminated by this discarded drug paraphernalia. Children and families should be very cautious about wearing sandals, open-toed shoes, or being barefoot in the areas near to these camps…
