*** WATCH *** MANHUNT: Hit and run suspect flees into Centerville swamp…
CENTERVILLE – A police sergeant in an unmarked vehicle radioed that he was behind a white pickup truck that had just crashed into at least one other vehicle at the intersection of Osterville/West Barnstable Road early this morning in Osterville. The pickup was reportedly fleeing the crash scene at a high rate of speed, almost striking the police sergeant’s vehicle. As you will hear in the following HN Video, police quickly discovered the white pickup truck abandoned on the side of Bretwood Lane in Centerville. A Barnstable Police K-9 unit arrived and tracked the suspect’s scent into a nearby swamp/pond. The K-9 was willing to go in after the suspect’s scent and as you will see, both dog and handler were drenched from the wet track that ended at the water’s edge. Officers believed there was still a chance their suspect was hunkered down in the area and a drone was deployed to continue the search.
The male suspect is still at large at the time of this report. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the crash (which had no injuries), along with the identity of the fleeing suspect.
