CENTERVILLE – Barnstable Police are investigating a bizarre call where they received reports of a vehicle left parked in the middle of the road in the area of Route 28 and Old Stage Road.
The first officer on scene found a set a keys lying in the roadway… and then, moments later, he found the male owner of the vehicle wandering down the street… there was also a loose pit bull reportedly found wandering around in the middle of Route 28.
Officers suspected the male was impaired but it did not appear to be alcohol related.
The male appeared confused as he expressed “I can’t explain what’s going on.” Based on his behavior and other evidence, police suspected possible drug use.
The male’s gray pit bull terrier appeared unharmed, but was scared and reluctant when eventually placed in the back seat of one of the police cruisers.
The male was placed in a COMM FD ambulance and transported to CCH in “non alcohol protective custody” due to suspected drug impairment.
Police are still investigating this case and no further details were available at the time of this report.
The dog was safe in the custody of police and was transported back to BPD Headquarters to be held pending the arrival of animal control officers.
The dark colored Audi was towed from the scene… [DEVELOPING]
