The following is the actual YPD media statement:
PAC OFFICER ARRESTS FELON WITH SPRING LOADED KNIFE
On Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 4:40PM, Yarmouth Police department Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officer Nicholas Ambrosini observed MA registration 3WP653 pass by his location on RT28 with tint on all windows and that the rear window was excessive and completely blacked out. The tint was so dark in the rear window that no one could see into it
Officer Ambrosini stopped the vehicle on Route 28 in South Yarmouth and detected a strong odor of burn marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
The operator, later identified as Brenden C. Barros, stated he last smoked marijuana 2 hour ago. Officer Ambrosini also observed a grinder in the center cup holder. The grinder is used for grinding up marijuana before it is smoked.
YPD Dispatch Center reported that Barros was on probation for illegal possession of a defaced firearm and illegal possession of a large capacity firearm.
Massachusetts State Police Trooper Chatigny and fellow Yarmouth Police Officers Batchelder and Mangano arrived as back up.
Based on the strong odor of burnt marijuana and Barros admission to smoking marijuana, he was checked and found not to be impaired. A check of his pants pocket located a spring loaded automatic knife which is illegal in Massachusetts. The knife was approximately 4″ long with a 3.5″ spring operated blade.
Barros was placed under arrest for carrying a dangerous weapon and transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.
Due to his probation status and prior record, the Bail Commissioner did not allow bail and Barros was held at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and transported to the Barnstable District Court this morning.
