Couple jumped, beaten, and robbed while out strolling… [video][Updated story…]
Hyannis – Last night, Barnstable Police and two Hyannis Rescue units were dispatched to a robbery scene on Old Colony Road near Foster Road.

Police received several reports that a young couple were attacked and robbed by 4 black males. The robbers fled the area traveling in a large-model black Jeep.
At least one of the males was reportedly wearing a mask.
The couple out strolling were guests at a nearby hotel in the Ocean Street area.
The robbery occurred approximately sometime between 9 and 9:30pm.

Prior to the robbery, an older man in his mid-fifties ran into the 4 men as he was walking home from the Hess Station at South and Ocean Street.
The 4 black males were waiting for him as he walked towards the intersection of Old Colony and Nantucket Street.
That’s when one of the males aggressively told him to “Get over here!”
The older man refused and was prepared for battle with a heavy metal-tipped walking cane.
Seeing he was not an easy mark, the thugs in the black Jeep left him alone.
The older man, who asked not to be named, said he sensed the men were out to harm him. He instantly decided he’d rather fight back, even if it landed him in jail with an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge. “I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6,” the man said as he shook his cane.

Hyannis News arrived at the robbery scene prior to rescue. Police were taking statements as the male and female victim sat in the backseat of one of the cruisers. Both victims appeared young, possibly in their late 20s.

Hyannis Rescue evaluated the victims who reportedly did not want to be transported to the hospital.
Both eventually exited rescue applying ice packs to their faces and head.
Police transported the female victim a short distance back to the hotel, while the male walked alongside an officer, searching the road leading up to where the robbery had taken place.

Editor's note: Hyannis News blurred and edited out all identifying images of the victim's faces.
Police are still looking for 4 black males, possibly in possession of at least one mask; one was reportedly wearing a black winter cap; another is said to have a “corn row” hair style; All the males were reportedly traveling in a black or dark colored larger model Jeep-type vehicle. One witness described the vehicle as having a flat-like grill area, which led him to believe he had seen a Jeep Wagoneer or Cherokee.
Details are still sketchy and Hyannis News will provide updates as they become available.
Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call the Barnstable Police at 508-775-0387.

Update: Hyannis News has leaned of another street mugging/ robbery which happened at 1:44am on Bearse's Way near the intersection of Quaker Road. On 9/10/2013, a female pedestrian reported an "unarmed robbery." An unidentified white female reported that she was robbed by two white males on bicycles. Both males were thin and wearing dark hoodies. One male was in his 40s, the other was in his 20s. They were last seen headed towards the Main Street area.
Update: SAFETY ADVISORY --- On 9/10/2013, at approximately 8:30pm, Hyannis News was walking through the Hyannis Village Green towards the Ocean Street docks. I observed a small group of elderly women walking along the walkway from the South Street / Ocean Street intersection towards the green and Main Street. I also observed a white male stalking the women from behind some bushes next to town hall. The women were unaware of being stalked... When the young male noticed I had seen him, he quickly left in the other direction toward the wooded area behind the old armory. The male in his mid-20s was approximately 5'9" tall wearing a short sleeve dark shirt and tan trousers... he had short hair... he appeared to be concealing something in his right hand when he was noticed. Other details were difficult to discern. The area was relatively dark and he was definitely up to no good. He seemed alarmed when he saw me and my dog looking right back at him.
Note: I was reluctant to report the suspicious male to local police due to conflicts with dispatchers on the 4 to midnight shift. Unless, I actually witness a crime, I am reluctant to volunteer information to dispatchers on that shift. Hyannis News is working on this issue... and has informed the current police administration... and will likely write more about it in the future.
Update: It's uncertain if this is even remotely related, but Cape Wide News is reporting an incident where victims in Mashpee were also confronted by a man wearing a mask early this morning. Two gunshots were reportedly fired by that suspect. Click here for Cape Wide News coverage of that story.
