STILL NO UPDATES ON WHAT HAPPENED: “84-year-old” man Medflighted after found under truck in Dennis on December 2nd… [LATEST WORD]
UPDATE – December 14, 2021 – [HN NOTES] – It has been nearly two weeks since HN covered a horrific scene where an “84-year-old” man was found trapped and severely injured under a pickup truck in West Dennis. HN readers have been asking questions and wondering what happened, so I emailed Lieutenant Peter Benson of the Dennis Police Department. I was checking to see whether there was anymore information or updates regarding the incident which sent a senior citizen to an off-Cape trauma center via a Life Flight helicopter. The night of the incident, HN spoke with an official on scene and it appeared to be an especially difficult caper, with investigators not exactly sure what they were actually dealing with at that point… whether or not it was considered to be a “hit-and-run,” etc… The daunting “truck vs. pedestrian” scene had officials scouring the vicinity with proverbial fine-toothed combs. A mystery then, and still one now… Lt. Benson promptly responded to HN’s inquiry, officially stating, “There are no updates to the investigation which is ongoing by members of the department’s Detective Division.”
HN will provide official updates as the case unfolds…

By Robert Bastille
WEST DENNIS – [DEVELOPING] – A man was reportedly struck by a vehicle in the area of the Horsefoot Cove Town Landing in West Dennis (on Route 28, just over the Bass River Bridge from Yarmouth) last evening at around 8:20 p.m.. The male victim, described as being 84-years-old, was reportedly found underneath a Ford Ranger pickup truck. He suffered multi-system trauma, according to radio transmissions, and was transported directly to Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis after being extricated. From there he was airlifted via a “Life Flight” helicopter to an off-Cape trauma center.
Back at the town landing parking lot, the pickup truck was cordoned off with crime scene tape. Dennis patrol officers, along with at least one Dennis PD detective, and a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit, investigated under and around the vehicle until shortly after midnight. The Ford Ranger pickup was then placed on a flatbed and escorted back to DPD Headquarters. It’s uncertain who the driver was and whether the driver remained on scene, but the Dennis Police conducted a K9 search of the area shortly after arriving on scene around 8:20 p.m.. [DEVELOPING]
The incident remains under investigation by the Dennis Police Department.
