INITIAL HN REPORT:
DENNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — An active investigation is underway in Dennis following a shooting incident that led to a male arriving at Cape Cod Hospital (CCH) with a gunshot wound on Wednesday evening, August 13, 2025. The Dennis Police Department responded to initial reports of a loud bang and a male seen hopping on one leg in the vicinity of Buncey’s Pizza & Sports Cafe on Route 134, according to sources. Authorities later learned of the gunshot victim at CCH, and while not yet officially confirmed, the two incidents appear to be connected.
Police swiftly launched investigations at both the hospital and the area outside Buncey’s. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted at both locations to process evidence. During the overnight hours of Wednesday into Thursday, a sedan parked near Buncey’s was towed to Dennis Police Headquarters, according to police radio transmissions.
On Thursday, August 13, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a significant development occurred when a SWAT team, alongside Dennis and Harwich police officers, conducted a traffic stop on Great Western Road. A suspect believed to be connected to the shooting was reportedly taken into custody and transported to Dennis Police Headquarters. Great Western Road was temporarily closed as officers secured the scene.
The investigation continued into the early evening, with Dennis Police detectives and a specialized K9 unit, including K9 Nemo and his handler, Barnstable County Sheriff Deputy Nick Fitzpatrick, searching for ballistic evidence along the woodline across from Buncey’s Pizza & Sports Cafe (see above HN photos). The search, which focused on detecting gunpowder and firearm related evidence, extended past sunset.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Dennis Police are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and further details will be released as they become available.
