Dennis Port man arrested after allegedly punching man wearing eyeglasses… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS/YARMOUTH – A Dennis Port man is in hot water after he allegedly hit a man who was wearing eyeglasses. The glasses were said to be broken as the result of a punch in the face.
At about 9:30PM last evening, police responded to the Hess gas station at the intersection of Route 28 and Bearses Way after some type of disturbance where a man was allegedly punched in the face and the suspect left the area driving a blue Ford 350 pickup truck.
The truck was seen driving along Route 28, possibly in the direction of the Yarmouth town line.
A Barnstable Patrolman spoke with the victim and determined there was probable cause to arrest the suspect driving the truck.
The patrolman also was told the victim had been struck in the face, which resulted in his eyeglasses being broken. The victim did not appear to be seriously injured and rescue was not needed at the scene.
Yarmouth patrols focused on the Route 28 area, which led to a traffic stop of the suspect vehicle in front of the Christmas Tree Shop.
Barnstable Patrolman Joshua Maloney responded to the Yarmouth traffic stop and arrested the suspect for the incident back in Hyannis. While searching the suspect, Officer Maloney discovered an illegal spring assisted knife.
Robert Bergen, age 21, of Dennis Port was charged with Assault & Battery, Injury to Real or Personal Property, and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.
The traffic stop also drew attention to the female passenger. “Kassee” Williams was also taken into custody by Yarmouth Police for a one-month-old arrest warrant. (There were no further details on the warrant at the time of this report.)
The following video highlights the scene of the traffic stop as it unfolded in Yarmouth.

HN NOTE: It’s illegal to punch anyone in the face, with or without eyeglasses. But, punching someone wearing eyeglasses in face also goes against every ancient playground code that I grew up with as a kid… but maybe those codes have changed in these modern “progressive” times, just like everything else, including common sense… 🙁
