Lightning may have caused fire in Dennis Port home built in 1840… [HN PHOTOS]
DENNIS PORT – The home owner at 25 Country Lane told HN that heavy smoke in his basement could have been caused by a lightning strike. And all indicators were pointing toward the fire being electrical related.
The call came in after 11:00 p.m. last evening – Friday, September 24, 2021 – right around the time other lightning strikes were being reported in the mid-Cape area. An intense band of rain, thunder and lightning had just passed over, sending local fire departments scrambling toward possible lightning strikes.
According to the home owner and town records, the house at 25 Country Lane was built in 1840. And firefighters apparently did a good job keeping damage to a minimum, working a very wet scene well into the overnight. The incident was finally wrapped up shortly prior to 2:00 a.m..
Everyone was able to get out safely and there were no reports of anyone being injured.
The Dennis FD is investigating and HN will provide official updates as they become available.
