UPDATED: What caused this devastating head-on crash that sent both drivers to CCH? Needles and Narcan found near one driver… [Video]

UPDATE, 7PM: According to a Sergeant Sean Sweeney of the Barnstable Police, Christopher S. MacDonald, age 29, of Sandwich, was charged with Operating to Endanger, Operating After Suspension, and Marked Lanes violations. He was treated and reportedly released from CCH for injuries sustained after hitting his head on the windshield.
While being questioned by police, MacDonald was unable to explain why he was driving in the wrong lane.
It has not been determined whether or not the accident was the result of illicit narcotic use. Police will not be seeking a toxicology report in this case.
Christopher MacDonald is no stranger to law enforcement. Back in March of 2014 he was arrested and charged with armed robbery based on his alleged involvement in the planning and execution of the robbery at Pizza 1 & Subs 2 in Marstons Mills…
The woman who’s vehicle was struck, was treated at CCH for non-life-threatening injuries, including trauma from the airbag deployment… she has already been released from CCH.
HN NOTE: Despite not having a definitive reason for today’s crash, HN has learned from an inside source about a risky practice where some addicts get a “thrill” out of shooting up while driving. There has even been reports of addicts using the shoulder seat belt as a strap to wrap around their upper arm to assist with shooting up while driving. This is an extremely dangerous practice and local drivers should always drive defensively, remaining especially leery of erratic oncoming vehicles. Substance abuse and driving (which includes alcohol) is nothing new for this region. But with that point made, HN has seen what appears to be an unusual increase in the amount of carelessness when it comes to the use of drugs (including alcohol) while driving in recent years… Be safe out there and drive defensively!
