DRAMATIC VIDEO: Hyannis News spots fleeing suspect… notifies cops… films foot chase and arrest… officer injured during pursuit…
HYANNIS – For the better part of the day, both Yarmouth and Barnstable Police had been searching for a wanted man who fled a traffic stop near the town line on Route 28 this morning…
That chase finally ended earlier this evening after a dramatic foot chase which resulted in the suspect’s capture and arrest… [see following raw video footage of that chase…]
Late this morning Yarmouth Police made a traffic stop near the intersection of Camp Street and Route 28, right near the Barnstable town line…
The driver was operating on a suspended license… but it was the passenger who suddenly fled the traffic stop barefoot after losing his flip-flops back near the scene…
Yarmouth Police chased the fleeing suspect into a wooded area behind Cape Seafood…
Barnstable Police also responded to assist, as both departments teamed up to set up a perimeter of the area…
A Yarmouth patrolman and his K-9 partner hit the ground tracking to the rear of the seafood restaurant…
Police even called in the FD with a thermal imaging device in attempts to locate this suspect…
Despite a rapid police response, the barefoot suspect somehow managed to elude capture for the remainder of the afternoon….
Police were searching for Anthony Depaolo, age 26… Depaolo reportedly had numerous outstanding warrants… one source said as many as 7 to 8 warrants… reportedly mostly traffic offenses…
The Cape Cod Times reports that Depaolo has 26 prior arraignments on his Massachusetts record… crimes ranging from drug and alcohol offenses to assault and battery…
Later in the afternoon, Depaolo reportedly showed up at a Yarmouth fire station complaining of symptoms related to some type of overdose… he was taken to CCH…
Police were thinking about holding off on arresting Depaolo until after he was treated… but when police called to check on the suspect, they were told he was in the process of fleeing from the building…
Once again, both Yarmouth and Barnstable police were involved in a manhunt… this time they were searching for Depaolo, once again shoeless, in the area of the Cape Cod Hospital and South Street…
Police quickly set up a perimeter again… and sent in Barnstable Patrolman Jeff Jackson with his K-9 partner Elvis…
Elvis and Jackson began tracking in the area between Lewis Bay Road and the Dockside Bar on School Street…
On a hunch, Hyannis News took a position outside the perimeter on the other side of school street… it seemed as if the search would logically be heading in that direction…
Once parked in a lot across from the Dockside Bar, Hyannis News observed Depaolo exit some shrubs in the parking area in front of the bar…
HN attempted to signal cops when the suspect began fleeing once again… cops quickly caught sight of the suspect running and HN began recording the chase… he was eventually taken down at Taser-point…
The following video shows Depaolo running right after being spotted by HN… [Press play]
Also note that during the foot pursuit a Yarmouth Police Officer was injured after briefly losing his footing... The officer was transported to CCH as a precaution... HN checked with YPD and according to initial reports the officer is expected to be okay, he was being treated for scrapes and bruises...
UPDATE: Here's a YPD press release from earlier in the day when Depaolo was still at large...
