DRIVE-BY: Three “shotgun” blasts through front windows…
Hyannis β At about 8:30pm, after multiple 911 reports of gunshots, Barnstable police squad cars converged on the Hiramar Road area looking for a green Chrysler LeBaron seen speeding away with its headlights off.
Upon arrival police radioed “three shotgun blasts” had blown out the front windows of number 22 Hiramar Road. (NOTE: Police sources are still unable to confirm if it was indeed a shotgun, as there has not been any official or definite ballistic evidence returned as of yet… If it was indeed a shotgun, some officers on scene speculated that birdshot may have caused the damage… again, police have not officially confirmed one way or another… however, if you examine the following photograph, there appears to be numerous BB or birdshot sized holes in and around the glass window…)
Police also stopped and questioned at least two males outside to the rear of the home believed to be possible targets of tonight’s shooting…
Despite at least two other adults being inside the home at the time of the shooting, no injuries were reported this evening…
It’s uncertain whether the people inside the home were the intended targets. If you look closely at tonight’s video you will notice a dark object in front of the residence on an area of sidewalk later marked as evidence… The dark object was perhaps dropped by one of the intended targets walking in front of the home when the shotgun blasts occurred… it also could have been placed there by an officer to mark another smaller piece of evidence until a crime scene investigator could properly do so… Either way, investigators are considering the possibility the fight took place in front of the residence… and that the intended targets were actually in front of the residence, not inside the house… (there are still many unanswered questions… check back for updated details as police are still trying to sort things out…)
A neighbor in the area also observed a “dark” colored pickup truck racing through the neighborhood towards Bearses Way at about the time of the shooting…
Other neighbors expressed alarm and voiced frustration about witnessing these types of shootings near their homes and families way too often.
Police K-9s scoured the area in search of shell casing and discarded weapons…
One officer described tonight’s gunplay as being βthe first shooting of the season.β
The incident remains under investigation and police beefed up security checks in the general vicinity…
