Family dog bit off 16-year-old’s ear… victim rushed to off-Cape hospital… Animal Control took pet into custody… [HN VIDEO]
EAST SANDWICH – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, last evening at about 9:40PM, first responders rushed to a very tragic and sad scene at a home on Ploughed Neck Road, after a 16-year-old had an ear completely bitten off by the family dog.
The 16-year-old was quickly attended to and transported to South Shore Hospital by Sandwich Rescue.
A Sandwich Animal Control Officer then removed the dog from the family home. The dog’s tail was wagging and (as you will see) did not appear to be behaving particularly aggressive while being loaded into the ACO’s vehicle…
The cause of the dog bite remains uncertain at the time of this report. The Sandwich Police Department and Sandwich Animal Control are looking into the incident…
… the victim’s current condition is unknown.
HN NOTE: Because some will be bound to wonder what the breed was; a source on scene described the dog as possibly being a Labrador or similar breed. It’s difficult to tell from the video… but it definitely did NOT appear to be a purebred American Pit bull Terrier… or a purebred American Staffordshire Terrier… or a “pit bull mix,” (whatever that means… because “mix” generally indicates “not pure,” and therefor should not be compared to breeds that have certain predictable traits… and in the case of pure APBTs and Am Staffs, aggression toward humans is not prevalent, like it may be in other breeds… In other words, one cannot compare a “mix” with any defined pedigree… To do so is an exercise in ignorance. ) It also did NOT appear to be a Chihuahua. In short, breed should not matter; all dogs have mouths and teeth, and all dogs are capable of biting under the right or wrong circumstances…
