INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, police responded to a downtown bar shortly before 1:00 a.m., after a man reportedly walked in dripping blood saying he’d been assaulted.
HN arrived just as police were making contact with a man who had a deep hand laceration.
Police asked the victim to describe the person who had assaulted him but he reportedly was not being very cooperative at first.
A Barnstable Patrolman began following the trail of blood down the sidewalk toward the Hyannis East End. The trail took the patrolman to another bar on Barnstable Road, then down Elm Street toward Center Street… Center Street back toward Main Street… and finally a couple more blocks to room number 18 of the Cascade Motor Lodge.
Inside room 18, officers encountered a male and a female. There was some broken glass and a lot of blood from some type of altercation between the laceration victim and the man inside room 18. Police learned that both parties knew each other.
Meanwhile, Cape Cod Hospital contacted officers, telling them the laceration looked as if it could be a stab wound. But initially officers believed it was a mutual fight between acquaintances, where the victim fell onto a broken piece of glass during a fight. It wasn’t looking as if the victim had actually been stabbed on purpose. Police took the female into custody for an unrelated Default Warrant for motor vehicle charges out of Mashpee. The incident was still being investigated at the time of this report, but no arrests have been made relating to the victim’s hand laceration.
The following HN Video highlights two scenes, outside the bar where the man showed up bleeding, and outside the motor lodge room where police believe there had been some type of mutual fight between acquaintances.
HN will provide updates should the investigation take a turn in another direction.
