Friday night recap: Tourists frightened by local street urchins; “home invasion” downgraded to A&B; passed out drunks, etc…
Hyannis – It was a busy Friday night as usual for cops and rescue…
… just another litany of bizarre, yet typical, HyTown transgressions related to alcoholism, drugs, and wanton aggression.
8:00 PM – Tourist felt threatened by street urchins
A pair of New York tourists out walking felt threatened by a group of 4 homeless ‘yutes’ using foul language. They believed they were being stalked by this group in the area of South Street and Ocean Street, an area known for at least two muggings in recent months.
The pair felt safer when a Barnstable Patrolman met up with them at the nearby Hess gas station.
The Patrolman offered the frightened visitors a ride back to their hotel, but they refused and made other arrangements. They likely did not want to be seen arriving back at the Heritage House Hotel in the back seat of a cruiser.

Barnstable Police responded to drunks passed out in parking lots
Officers were called to investigate at least two incidents where someone was found passed out in a parking lot due to too much alcohol.
One man was found lying in the parking area of Bangkok Kitchen. Officers assessed the individual’s well being and concluded his issues with gravity were related to him being just plain [bleep]-faced (my words, not the officers…). Luckily for the drunken man, he had a sober friend who was willing to look after him and take him home… which sure beats a night sobering up in jail.
“Home invasion” downgraded to simple A&B
Hyannis – Early this morning, just prior to 2am, multiple Barnstable Patrol Officers rushed to a residence on Pine Grove Avenue after a daughter called in reporting her father had just been jumped by two men.
The man was found unconscious with a head wound. Hyannis Rescue responded.

Initially, police were treating this as a home invasion and were searching for the two males who reportedly fled the area in a black Nissan.
However, after further investigation police learned the unconscious man had been drinking all night with the two assailants.
The male regained consciousness but still needed to be transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further evaluation
Also note: A second Hyannis Rescue had to respond and transport a woman from the scene to CCH due to undisclosed medical issues.
The investigation was downgraded from “home invasion” to a “simple assault and battery.”
