GUNSHOTS: Police investigating shell casings, knives, and blood found after altercation…

HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] Police are still trying to figure out what exactly happened outside a residence where an altercation led to gun-play…
At about 12:09am, Barnstable patrol officers approached 546 Lincoln Road Extension after receiving a report of “shots fired” outside of that dwelling.
A section of Lincoln Road Extension was briefly shut down with patrolmen out on foot providing security for other officers approaching the residence.
The first officers on scene found what was described as 5 to 6 shell casings, knives, and blood.
A police supervisor immediately asked for a detective and a K-9 unit to respond to the scene.
The K-9 team began tracking onto a property located at the end of Lincoln Road Extension. They followed a scent and footprints in the snow for several blocks for about an hour… but apparently were unable to locate the person they were looking for.
The blood was discovered in small droplets back at the scene.
The people who remained on scene were not injured.
Investigators contacted local hospitals advising them of the situation and to be on the lookout.
A wallet was also located on the ground near to the other evidence.
Evidence was photographed, documented, and processed. Possible witnesses were separated and questioned at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and HN will provide updates as they become available.
