HYANNIS – At about 6:00PM, multiple Barnstable police squad cars rushed to the area of Baxter Road to assist an officer who was just involved in a foot chase.
Barnstable Police Patrolman Joe Green was on routine patrol when he reportedly observed what he believed was a drug deal.
Green found himself in a chase after a male suspect. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly tried to slam Green’s cruiser door shut to prevent him from exiting. A foot chased ensued and the suspect was reportedly tasered in order to effect the arrest.
Officers reportedly discovered a quantity of heroin and marijuana.
Wazir Beyah, age 18, of Hyannis was transported back to BPD Headquarters and charged with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin) with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Class D Substance (Marijuana) with Intent to Distribute, and Disorderly Conduct.
Beyah was bailed out from police custody later in the evening and is scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court after the weekend.
HN arrived after the arrest and began to document the scene on Barnstable Road. There were police officers still on scene while the investigation continued. According to sources, two females who were with the suspect remained on scene and were reportedly disruptive toward police. Police reportedly used an abundance of patience as they tried to do their job in the face of profanity and racially charged language.
HN was in the process of documenting the general scene when one of the females quickly turned toward me and immediately prejudged me on a racial level before spewing a barrage of racially charged hate speech toward me. The racial slurs continued as the female threatened HN with legal action. HN has never before met this individual, but her hate speech and threats were clearly an attempt to intimidate me from doing my job.
HN NOTES: There is absolutely no room for racially charged hate speech in our community. In short, the unidentified female in the following video attempted to violate my civil rights through the use of offensive and intimidating hate speech, accompanied by illogical threats of legal action. (HN has a protected First Amendment Right to document these scenes in my role as a photojournalist/reporter… furthermore, no one should ever be singled out and targeted by hate speech because of prejudice or perceptions related to one’s race…)
HN has zero tolerance for racism and will be forwarding this report to state and federal authorities.
It is HN’s ongoing mission to help cleanse our streets of drugs, crime, hatred, and ignorance through documenting such crime scenes.
The following video highlights a very volatile and disturbing scene in a family neighborhood…
