INITIAL HN REPORT PUBLISHED ON 8/2/2026:
WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — [DEVELOPING] — In a tense, high-risk arrest just before 6 p.m. Sunday, Barnstable and Yarmouth police officers approached a white Mercedes SUV with sidearms and rifles drawn as it sat parked overlooking the water at Sandy Pond.
The vehicle, bearing Massachusetts registration 6PXL64, was the same white Mercedes that had been the focus of a regional BOLO issued the night before. Officers took a man approximately 25 years old into custody while continuing to cover the SUV. Once the vehicle was cautiously cleared, police recovered and secured a holstered semi-automatic handgun.
The registration and description of the SUV directly tied the man arrested Sunday evening to the overnight search. Police across the region had been looking for a white Mercedes with plate 6PXL64 being operated by a man [age 30 – born in 1995, NOT 2001 as broadcast in one of the initial BOLOs], wanted on a warrant for alleged assault and battery on a pregnant woman in the Town of Barnstable, according to radio transmissions. Authorities believed the man was in possession of a firearm.
(Note: HN is attempting to obtain official, updated details after the arraignment, and will provide updates as they become available…)
The hunt had intensified Saturday evening in downtown Hyannis, where officers briefly focused on a man matching the suspect’s description. That individual allegedly tried to evade them on foot after noticing police. When officers caught up, the man explained he had run because he didn’t trust law enforcement. After a short conversation, officers determined he was not the person they sought. The actual suspect remained at large until Sunday’s takedown at Sandy Pond.
Officials are currently unable to release or confirm additional details related to the domestic-violence investigation under Massachusetts law until after the suspect’s arraignment.
This is a developing story. Initial details are based on radio transmissions and information from sources. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
