HN VIDEO: Near Drowning in Centerville… woman discovered floating… CPR started right away… [DEVELOPING]
CENTERVILLE – [DEVELOPING] – A beachgoer was looking out at the ocean and enjoying the day when she saw a woman floating near Covell’s Beach at about 5:00PM this afternoon…
… she then quickly alerted others to get help.
HN arrived shortly after rescuers pulled the female victim from the water.
Rescuers immediately started CPR compressions, and according to radio transmissions, the woman was still not breathing, but did have a pulse…
Barnstable Police Officers and COMM Firefighters arrived and assisted with rescue efforts.
The woman was said to be older, possibly in her 60s… she was transported to CCH.
The Cape Cod Times reports 3 lifeguards responded to the water to rescue the woman who was about 10 to 15 feet from the beach.
Barnstable lifeguards typically get off duty at about 5:00PM; had this incident occurred any later, there’s a good chance the victim would not have been pulled ashore to receive CPR as soon as she did.
The following is the actual COMM FD press statement:
COMM FD received a call for a person in the water in the area of Covells Beach. Town of Barnstable lifeguards who were working at Craigville Beach were alerted that there was a person unconscious floating in the water. Lifeguards immediately responded and brought the patient to shore. Patient was approximately 10-15 feet off shore. TOB lifeguards initiated CPR. Barnstable PD and COMM FD arrived on scene. Advanced Life Support was initiated. The patient was transported from the beach to the ambulance and transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
**No update on the patient’s condition is available at the time of this press release**
HN will provide updates as soon as they become available.
The following HN Video highlights the dramatic scene… it also has an interview with the woman who alerted others to get help… quite possibly helping to save a life today…
