Homeless woman arrested after police called to girls’ soccer practice… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS — Situations surrounding the local homeless problem continually tie up our limited police resources in the downtown area…
… today was no different.
At about 5:15PM today, police responded to the playing field behind the Saint Pope John Paul II High School after receiving a call that the girls soccer practice was being disrupted and harassed by homeless individuals in the area.
When HN arrived, there was loud disruptive profanity coming from a wooded area at one end of the soccer field, an area where there are numerous illegal homeless campsites.
Police encountered an aggravated female quickly leaving the wooded area and seemingly trying to evade them by walking away. The woman is no stranger to local law enforcement. And in today’s case, she was once again arrested after police learned she had 4 outstanding warrants. At least one of the warrants was for not showing up for her scheduled court date…
HN NOTE: Perhaps the most disturbing part of the following footage is the woman shooting her mouth off and swearing at the coach in front of his players as she’s being led away in handcuffs… The footage illustrates one of the many disruptive situations that arise from having the “homeless industry” set up so close to downtown family neighborhoods, school children of all ages, and the dwindling business/tourism district. Camps set up on the edges of school properties are too frequently the result of individuals being turned away from local shelters, usually because of behavioral issues. Many of the camps are also set up by individuals who would rather avoid the rules and restrictions implemented by the numerous homeless and social service enterprises that continue to pop up in the Main Street area. Its creating what some refer to as the “If you build it, they will come” phenomena, where the Hyannis homeless condition, culture, and lifestyle perpetually grows and grows, with numbers that never improve or diminish… hence the term “homeless industry.” Some would argue that the homeless industry is growing at a rate which far exceeds tourism, or the growth rate of any other local industry… or lack thereof…
It’s a sad commentary on local leadership’s inability to effectively realize, plan, and stand up for the families, businesses, and schools in the village of Hyannis. Sure, there have been recent meetings and exclusive chats, but there seems to be confusion and mixed agendas, with the people who live and work in Hyannis being left with the proverbial short end of the stick. Our local government is clearly broken and there needs to be drastic changes in our town’s priorities. The large number of law abiding citizens and tax payers within the village of Hyannis deserve a government which works for them…
… and if that’s not reasonably offered, perhaps it’s time to rise up in numbers and demand it.
The end of the following footage shows several of the many campsites set up on the edge of this school’s property. Walking into the woods, one is overcome with the odor of urine and human feces…
