HOSPITAL O.R. FIRE: “They caught a patient’s hair on fire…” [UPDATED]
HYANNIS – What happened inside the Cape Cod Hospital O.R. last evening? (Please refer to update below…)
HN tuned into the Hyannis Fire Department when they responded to an automatic fire alarm inside one of the O.R. Rooms at Cape Cod Hospital.
It was sounding like a routine call until the words “they caught a patient’s hair on fire” were transmitted.
Was the patient inside the operating room? Were they in the middle of some type of procedure? Was the patient seriously injured? Is this a case of medical malpractice? An accident? Does this happen often? Are future patients in danger? These are just some of the questions that ran through my curious mind after one of the most unusual calls I’ve ever heard.
(Of course the whole thing could have been simply a routine occurrence… but I doubt it.)
Because of HIPAA Laws, I knew I would not be able to get information from first responders, hospital security, or other staff.
HN left a phone message with the Cape Cod Hospital media relations person and will provide updates on this bizarre occurrence as soon as they become available.
The following video includes audio from emergency radio transmissions. It also shows the scene at CCH. The hospital did not appear to have been evacuated and radio chatter seemed to indicate that the patient was quickly extinguished.
(As an aside, HN would like to take this opportunity to thank our worthy and generous sponsors as mentioned above on this page…)
