Hotel manager accused of hitting dumpster diver in face with metal pole…
HYANNIS – The manager of the Americas Best Value Inn & Suites, located at 206 Main Street, was arrested tonight for allegedly hitting a man in the face with a metal pole.
At about 7:45pm, several Barnstable Patrolmen responded to East Main Street after a man reported he had just been struck in the face with a metal pole.
The man reportedly was looking for empty cans in a dumpster at 206 Main Street when the manager, who also happens to be the hotel owner’s son, confronted him and allegedly hit him with the pole.
Police determined the man making the allegations did not have wounds that warranted a response from rescue.
Officers took the alleged victim’s statements and then went across the street to speak with the hotel manager.
Police asked the manager to show them the pole he was accused of using on the dumpster diver. Moments later the hotel manager returned and produced a bent metal pole…
Officers had listened to both sides, and based on the alleged victim’s statements, along with physical evidence, officers decided to place the hotel manager under arrest.
Alan Chan, age 30, was transported back to BPD Headquarters where he was booked for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
A front desk employee took charge of the hotel while her manager was in police custody.
