Hyannis man captured with heroin after foot chase… police searched vegetation and rooftops for gun…
HYANNIS – Thursday at about 8:30pm, a man took off running from police. One officer radioed the suspect appeared to have a gun in his belt.
The foot pursuit began in the area of Center Street and ended in the bus port of the Hyannis Transportation Center.
Police searched the suspect and found 16 grams of heroin. They did not, however, find a gun.
Patrol officers set up a two block perimeter to preserve the scene of the chase.
Patrolman Sean Roycroft had his K-9 partner Rocky sniff the area for the gun and other evidence.
Officers searched the grass and bushes.
The Hyannis Fire Department also responded with a ladder truck to assist with searching the rooftops.
A handgun was not recovered.
According to police, Denzel Smith, age 22, of Hyannis was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute for having the 16 grams of heroin. He was also reportedly charged with Disorderly Conduct for running from police.
Smith was arraigned and held on $50,000 cash bail.
