Hyannis Man Wanted on Default Warrants for “Armed Robbery” and Assault Charges Arrested in Pre-Dawn Operation

HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – Shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, Barnstable Police patrol officers surrounded a home in Hyannis after receiving a call from a female who reported that a wanted man was inside.
The caller told dispatch, “You have to send someone,” before hanging up. Attempts by dispatch to call the woman back were unsuccessful.
Responding officers learned that the man was 37-year-old Keith Newell of Hyannis. Newell had default warrants for several serious open charges, including multiple counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and “armed robbery,” according to police radio transmissions.
Newell is well known to local police and has a history of fleeing from officers in the past. Because of that, responding patrolmen took no chances. Under cover of darkness, they completely surrounded the residence before approaching and knocking on the door.
After a period of time, Newell was taken into custody without incident. He was cooperative as he was walked out in handcuffs toward a waiting cruiser.
Hyannis News Reminder: The initial details contained in the above report are based on radio transmissions and information from police sources. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
