A TENDER VISIT: “What are friends for?” [HN PHOTOS]
RECENT HN PHOTO: [HN NOTES & THOUGHTS ON HOW WE LOOK AT PHOTOS] “What are friends for?” I asked myself as I snapped the above tender moment between obvious friends. This gentleman appears to be thoroughly enjoying a cigarette he’d been passing back-and-forth to the woman who had just stopped by for a brief visit. The welcoming dry weather, along with the sun baking down upon the downtown Hyannis doorway made for a warm, peaceful photo; one representing companionship and sharing between friends, in the traditional “Hytown” sense…
Now, a speculative and excessively judgmental person could certainly project their inner selves onto this image by engaging in wild speculation as to what was actually being openly smoked, and whether it was appropriate or not. But that would be completely unsubstantiated projection and conjecture. Not supported one way or another by this particular HN photo, IMHO. To me, this is an image simply showing a man and a woman enjoying each other’s company, sharing a cigarette, on a beautiful Hyannis day… and I have absolutely no other evidence which would suggest otherwise. That’s what I see in my final analysis, nothing more…
(I shouldn’t have to point this out, but I reluctantly read overly judgmental, unnecessary comments on daily basis, so here it is: HN photos are not indictments! They are captured moments from our surroundings, often overlooked as we hastily speed past in traffic, as if too many of us are locked into a type of self-limiting tunnel vision. HN images, like the one above, simply slow down and stop fleeting moments that are often missed as we hurry through our lives. Some will see only what the image offers, while others will spin off in other directions. And that’s the beauty of a still image…)
But please, by all means, take a careful look! And try not to be too quick to judge…

HN Photos: I do believe my heart actually stopped once or twice last evening!
The following photos illustrate why…
In the above HN photo, police and firefighters rushed to a Hyannis address last evening after receiving a report that a car a man was working on had just fallen on him. To everyone’s relief, the man was not serious injured and did not need to go to hospital.
In the above HN Photo, Barnstable FD Rescue responded to a local church for a woman who had fallen down last evening. Police were also initially summoned as EMTs reportedly thought something may have been suspicious, according to radio transmissions. It likely turned out to be not as nefarious as may have been initially believed, as the Barnstable FD ambulance transported the stricken woman to CCH prior to police arriving on scene.
In the above HN Photos, first responders were relieved to find out that a woman out walking her dog was not seriously hurt after allegedly being backed into by a vehicle last evening. Still upset after being evaluated inside a Hyannis FD ambulance, the woman angrily pointed at the driver of the car, telling him he was “lucky.” (Probably because she was able to walk away instead of being transported to CCH…) She was also apparently angry at one of the police officers and was told to keep walking away with the male and female who appeared to be urging her to leave as well…
Now, in my personal opinion, out of all of today’s images, the top one still remains my personal favorite, hands down!
Please have a super safe and splendiferous Hytown Thursday!
