*** WATCH *** HOT MIDNIGHT SHIFT: BACK-TO-BACK “FAILURES TO STOP” FOR BPD… ONE CAR LATER REPORTED STOLEN… PLUS OTHER MISCHIEF…
TOWN OF BARNSTABLE – It was extremely busy during the first two hours of the Barnstable Police Department’s midnight to eight shift this morning.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, Barnstable patrol officers responded to the parking lot at Barnstable Road and North Street in Hyannis after a patrolwoman called in a disturbance. A male was eventually taken into protective custody and appeared to not be cooperating with officers as they tried to have him take a seat in the cruiser. While dealing with the disturbance, other BPD squad cars scrambled toward a report of an unresponsive male in Centerville… These are just two examples of the routine-type calls that were happening shortly after midnight. Routine calls are one thing, but pursuits and vehicles failing to stop are quite another.
Minutes after clearing the disturbance call in Hyannis, a patrolwoman radioed that she had a vehicle failing to stop for her on Main Street. The pursuit weaved its way through neighborhoods across Hyannis until supervisors called it off due to increasing speeds. The vehicle was last estimated to have been traveling about 80 miles per hour along Craigville Beach Road. Other towns were on the lookout and the vehicle in question was later reported stolen out of the Town of Orleans.
About 15 minutes after the termination of the first pursuit, a Barnstable Police Patrolman can be heard advising that he had a second vehicle failing to stop for him on Route 28 in Centerville. The vehicle’s speed was said to have reached about 80 miles per hour. HN was parked nearby right as the driver of the second vehicle decided to stop. A young man was given field sobriety tests and arrested for Operating Under the Influence… and additional charges are likely…
The following HN Video highlights the aforementioned calls which happened during just the first two hours of this morning’s midnight to eight shift. The video contains actual BPD radio transmissions. In the coverage of the first pursuit, the video contains actual HN Dashcam pursuit footage, along with HN file dashcam footage which shows parts of the travel route. The final HN footage shows an OUI investigation involving the second driver who allegedly failed to stop for police…
