He’s been fishing since age 9… loves it! [HN PHOTOS]
HYANNIS – Ocean Street Docks, about 4:00 a.m. this morning – Shawn, a crew member on the Tom Slaughter, tells HN he has been fishing ever since he was 9-years-old…
… he’s now 23 and still loves it. Shawn is from Hull, Massachusetts and today’s catch was sea clams (I think he referred to them as surf clams… but suffice to say, they were clams, and a lot of ’em, hauled in from somewhere south of Nantucket).
It took the crew of the Tom Slaughter about a day and half to bring in today’s catch… and they weren’t going to do the usual “turn-and-burn” because of the possibility of some rough weather heading our way. According to Shawn, it was already starting to swell up and roll a little out there…
… not fun.
The following are some snapshots of young Shawn in action:

The crew refers to this big fella as “Big Red.” Big Red is from Hyannis…

HN didn’t see much of “Scrow,” rhymes with “crow,” but with an “S” in front of it. Scrow’s said to be from Wellfleet, and was busy working the hole… God bless him…

And HN was only able to take just a couple snapshots of Captain Matt (he’s the one working to the right of Big Red)…

HN NOTES: Remember, if you’re ever having a bowl of clam chowder, who knows, it just could have been these guys that caught that for you!
All-and-all, this morning’s offload punctuated a successful, safe endeavor for this young hard working crew. And dear Lord, please keep them safe and sound as they diligently continue to do what they love!
