HN PHOTOS: Home Sweet Homeless?
Above HN Photo: A woman takes temporary shelter in a downtown Hyannis doorway by spreading and hanging blankets… as glowing candles offer the temporary illusion of warmth and comfort…
HYANNIS – Downtown Hyannis has many nooks and crannies which come in handy on those mornings when the cold winds blow. And if one looks carefully on any given night, they’ll discover individuals seeking temporary shelter in those nooks and crannies.
The following HN Photos (including the one above) were made between 4 and 4:30 a.m. this morning, within the perimeter of one downtown block. The outside temperature was 35°F at the time, with the wind chill around 26°F. It was challenging staying warm this morning for sure. And it’s only going to become more challenging in the coming weeks.
If you are interested in helping the homeless, some local agencies have a history of working with volunteers. One such agency is the Cape Cod Housing Assistance Corporation. CLICK HERE to link to their current volunteer page…
And please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers…
In the following HN Photo, Dennis Police and DFD EMTs responded to a Dennis Port parking lot after acquaintances began fighting one another at a nearby residence last evening. Two ambulances responded and one male was transported to CCH. During the call to police, a tire iron was mentioned, which made responders concerned it could be used as a weapon… Peace had already been restored as HN arrived on scene. The DPD is investigating the incident.
In the following HN Photo, a 49-year-old female suffered an alcohol overdose after having one too many Margaritas last evening, made worse by an existing health condition. She had been out for the evening with friends before losing consciousness. She eventually came around prior to being transported to CCH.
