Woman and rabbit safe after vehicle strikes shopping cart… [HN PHOTOS]
HYANNIS – Police and rescue responded to the area of 800 Bearses Way for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at around 9pm last evening. Upon arrival, officers found an uninjured woman holding a large rabbit. Her shopping cart was mangled after apparently being struck by a passing vehicle. The vehicle reportedly did not remain on scene. A deformed suitcase landed near a fence, its contents forming a debris field nearly 25 yards wide.
The homeless woman was very distraught, left clinging to her “Sweetie,” a rabbit she says she recently rescued.
Worried about Sweetie’s condition, officials contacted Animal Control to take care of the bunny while they arranged for accommodations and assistance for the woman. The rabbit possibly hurt its leg during the collision, but otherwise appeared calm and perfectly content with being cared for.
No further details about the woman or rabbit at the time of this report… The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the crash.
