HYANNIS PORT – [DEVELOPING] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, shortly after midnight last evening, Barnstable patrol cars responded to the area of the Kennedy Compound after an alert Hyannis Port security guard reported that a man he had just encountered appeared to be intoxicated while parked behind the wheel. The man’s Toyota RAV4 was reportedly parked on Marchant Ave, just inside the entrance to the Kennedy Compound. It’s an area that is marked as being private.
Shortly after patrol cars were dispatched, responding officers were notified that the RAV4 had just left Marchant Ave and was now driving in the direction of “Squaw Island.”
Moments later, officers had the suspect vehicle stopped on Squaw Island Road, a narrow waterfront stretch of road often referred to as the “causeway” that connects the “island” to nearby Hyannis Port. The traffic stop took place just inside the entrance to Squaw Island, an area also marked as being private.
As you will hear in the following HN Video, a multilingual Barnstable Police patrolman was requested to the scene to assist in the investigation. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit was also called to the scene to take photos of the inside of the suspect’s vehicle.
According to Sergeant St. Onge of the Barnstable Police Department, the Hyannis man was arrested and is being charged with Operating Under the Influence and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The suspect was still being processed at the time of this report, and HN will provide additional details as soon as they become available.
* All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
