HYANNIS POSTMAN: Hey, your house is on fire… [Video][Updated]
Hyannis – The residents of 86 Hamden Circle had no idea their house was on fire when they answered a knock at the door from the local mailman who told them about the outside wall…
The south side of the address was burning and it’s a good thing the postman was nearby…
Meanwhile, a neighbor also noticed the fire and called the Hyannis Fire Department.
There initially was a little confusion (possibly due to a “language barrier”) about the exact location, as some first responders started towards Orr’s Ave in the adjacent, but completely separate neighborhood…
Deputy Chief Melanson, who was in his Hyannis FD SUV, knows the two separate neighborhoods well… and that access points from one to other are literally many blocks apart. He decided to check the Hamden Circle area first just to make sure… and it’s a good thing he did because he was able to confirm the exact address as 86 Hamden Circle.
Melanson noticed 3 to 4 exterior brush and debris fires in addition to the outside wall of the home.
While waiting for fire engines to make their way back over to the correct neighborhood, Melanson and other first responders did the best they could with hand-held fire extinguishers.
The evacuated residents also attempted to battle the fire with a garden house…
The fire was extinguished relatively quickly after fire engines were on scene…
Adults, children, and two cats safely made it out of the building… (thanks again to the local mailman)
Fire was also discovered inside the home as well as in the basement. Fire officials still are unsure where the fire started… or what caused it…
There were no injuries reported.
