ICE RESCUE: Firefighters try to save man and his dog from Cotuit Bay… [VIDEO]

COTUIT – At about 4pm, Firefighters and police rushed to the icy waters at the end of Little River Road after a man fell through the ice attempting to rescue his dog from Cotuit Bay.
A dog had reportedly chased a bird out onto the ice and fell through. The dog’s owner also fell through the thick slushy ice while attempting to rescue his beloved pet.
While firefighters and police were responding to what was described as a man and dog in the water, dispatcher’s lost contact with the man on his cell phone… and attempts to call the man went right to his voicemail. First responders were fearing the worst…
The following video shows firefighters attempting to save the dog still in the icy waters of Cotuit Bay. The dog’s owner was being transported to CCH at the time of this footage. He was able to get himself out after falling through the ice 3 times, and he reportedly was exposed to the frigid water for about 3 minutes. Much was edited from the video, but it does show firefighters giving the dog “mouth-to-snout” resuscitation breathing and chest compressions. WARNING: Although much of the close up footage was edited out, some of the images of the rescue efforts may be disturbing for some viewers. It illustrates firefighters hustling and selflessly risking their lives to save a family pet. Rescuers were giving the dog mouth-to-snout CPR right up into the back of an awaiting ambulance… After much effort, the man’s dog sadly did not make it. Firefighters did all they could and it was disappointing for them… The video also contains a brief interview with a witness who, along with his young son, saw the whole thing… [Press play… Select HD from the settings and enlarge player for best quality… ]
