MAN DIES AFTER INCIDENT ON ELM STREET: Radio erupted with officers urgently announcing that a man was fighting with them… moments later they asked for an ambulance to “step it up…” then an unconscious middle-aged man was taken to hospital with CPR in progress… [HN VIDEO – UPDATED]
UPDATE – Wednesday 4/17/19: According to a report in the Cape Cod Times, a 63-year-old man died last evening after an incident at 45 Elm Street. When rescue arrived they found the patient in cardiac arrest. Police arrived at the home after a “call for assistance.” During the call, HN observed that officers came on the radio announcing a man was fighting with them. Hyannis Rescue then was called to the scene with officers urging them to “step it up.” State police detectives are investigating the death, and there will be an autopsy according to the District Attorney who declined further comment. INITIAL HN REPORT
HYANNIS – The Barnstable Police patrol operations frequency suddenly erupted with officers urgently announcing that a man was fighting with them and to send more cars. Then after a brief period of tense silence, officers came on the radio again asking for dispatch to send rescue.
Shortly after 7:00 p.m., additional police were en route to 45 Elm Street to assist. Moments after that, and as you will hear in the following HN Video, a patrolman asked to have rescue “step it up.”
Whatever had just occurred, there was a sense of seriousness and urgency…
An unconscious middle-aged man was taken out of the residence on a stretcher, with a mechanical CPR machine strapped to his chest providing compressions… he was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for emergency life support.
As you will see in the following HN Video, multiple police units had already arrived, and had remained on scene.
A medic looked over at one of the involved officers, as if asking if he needed first aid and he shook his head no.
A Barnstable Police detective was immediately called in.
As of 10:15 p.m., the time of this report, some police vehicles appeared to be clearing the scene. UPDATE: As of 10:45 p.m., several detectives remained on scene inside the residence.
Sources on scene unofficially indicated there had been some type of altercation involving a man that police officers had been checking on, but official details were not readily available.
