Is our court system a joke for local thugs?
[HN NOTES]
“In the Halls of Justice, the only justice is in the halls.” ~ Lenny Bruce
Was that what Anthony “Little Ant” Russ was trying to accomplish when he jumped his co-defendant in the hallway just outside Barnstable District Court on yesterday?
If that’s the case, he may be onto something. I’ve been waiting to see some real justice in the Barnstable Courts for a very long time…
… maybe Little Ant and I actually agree on one thing after all.
The only real justice (or should I say the ‘only possible’ justice), is in the halls, or in the parking lot, or on the streets – anywhere but inside a Barnstable Courtroom.
Yesterday, Little Ant added another felony to his long list of Little Ant crimes when he took it upon himself to bust a move on his co-defendant, 26-year-old Kyle Fortes of Hyannis.
Barnstable First Justice W. James O’Neill had just revoked bail on a previous case and set $100,000 bail on the most recent arrest, it’s about time someone actually did something Little Ant didn’t approve of. (Do I detect a glimmer of hope for more justice in the courts after all?)
Little Ant, for seemingly the first time, did not get his little ant way in court. So, he did what any little ant would do, he bugged out and had a tantrum.
Like a wild animal, the enraged Little red Ant allegedly flew at Fortes scratching and gouging with his court issued manacles, rallying all the ant powers he could muster… Instead of restraining the out of control career criminal, his manacles became his most recent ‘weapon of choice.’
Fortes said he was okay, although covered with scrapes and bruises…
I think I understand why Little Ant was buggin’ yesterday. It seems the court may be finally seeing him for who he really is, a violent thug and drug dealer with no respect for anything or anyone but himself (actually some would argue he has no self-respect either…).
And up to this point, Little Ant has viewed the local court system for what it really is, a wanton inconsiderate joke.
Too harsh you say? Well let’s take a look at some highlights from Little Ant’s recent life of crime:
September 2007 – multiple .45 caliber slugs ripped through a home on Hiramar Road, Little Ant pleaded guilty to Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, a Handgun. The sentence was 2 years. Did he have to serve it? No. Well, not exactly. Assistant Magistrate Scott Colgan decided Little Ant had already racked up enough “jail credit” and deemed the sentence completed because of “time served.” Some wonder if the Assistant Magistrate actually told Little Ant “Go and sin no more my son…”
Whatever Assistant Magistrate told Little Ant, it most certainly did not deter him from future brushes with the law.
October 2010 – acquitted in the shooting death of 18-year-old Jaques Sellers…
March 2011 – he was sentenced for up to 3 years for assaulting a prison guard… he only served 1 and half years in prison…
April 2013 – Little Ant was arrested and charged with Trafficking Heroin (18-36 grams) as well as Possession of Cocaine and Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. Due to his criminal history, Russ was held without bail overnight at the BPD and was arraigned on 4/4/13 in Barnstable District Court…
April 4, 2013 – Little Ant walks out of court, having just posted bail with some spare pocket change, despite the Commonwealth’s recommendation to hold the serial repeat offender on at least $100,000 bail… click here to read my thoughts on that particular clown show…
April 27, 2013 – Little Ant suspected of somehow being involved in an ambush-style shooting that sent one woman to CCH from the West Main Street area… click here to see Hyannis News coverage of that scene…
April 30, 2013 – Little Ant’s name comes up in connection to a drive-by style shooting that left a local home riddled with bullets… click here to read Hyannis News coverage of that incident…
June 2013 – Little Ant was taken down on Arm Robbery charges… click here for Hyannis News coverage of that crime…
December 2013 – Little Ant was picked up for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon…
Hyannis News was there just after it allegedly occurred, click here…
January 2014 – Little Ant indicted by a Barnstable County grand jury on drug distribution charges…
The above entries only briefly highlight Little Ant’s life of crime…
At the very least Little Ant seems to be quite enterprising. But reviewing just the highlights of his young adult life, I cannot help but wonder why in the world he keeps getting set free to rack up more crimes.
In a twisted way, it’s actually unfair to Little Ant setting him free over and over to only pick up more and more charges…
It’s also definitely unfair and inconsiderate to the community in which he continually pushes drugs and preys on others with obvious impunity.
Have the tides finally turned in the way Barnstable Courts will be handling Mr. Russ? I personally have lost hope in there being any semblance of meaningful justice here locally.
This article is entitled with a question “Is our court system a joke for local thugs?”
For me it’s a rhetorical question; yes, our court system has become a clown show in many respects.
It’s a place where the serious criminals thrive and everyday law abiding citizens who make a minor mistake suffer.
For example, get a speeding ticket and you’ll pay over and over until your driving record finally is deemed “clean” by the insurance industry.
Here’s another example, show up to “family court” with one too many Y chromosomes and you will be unfairly fined, marginalized, and disenfranchised… because you’re guilty, after all, of having done at least two things wrong; one, wanting to care for your kids without being hassled… and two, being a male parent. You will be threatened with all types of court actions from arrest to losing your drivers license for the crime of being underemployed or poor. You will be laughed at, mocked, and treated like the deadbeat dad you never dreamed of being. You basically will have to endure a long hard sentence of not having meaningful legal rights or the reasonable expectation of equal treatment under the “law.”
But shoot off guns, maybe even kill someone and get away with it, sell mass amounts of drugs, try a couple armed robberies, or run around threatening witnesses and you’ll be handle with kid gloves in the Barnstable Courts… in other words, there will be no meaningful consequences.
So, do the criminals, illegal aliens, and thugs – basically that segment of our society that doesn’t give a [bleep]… do they see our court system as a joke?
I don’t see why they wouldn’t.
