KRISTY’S KORNER: Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod…
This past weekend I had the pleasure of taking a day to drive down the Cape to visit Truro Vineyards. I have toured many vineyards across the country and I was anxious to see for myself what people have been telling me for several years. The vineyard is located about 1/2 mile from the ocean and the bay on either side, nestled in the hills of Truro on Route 6A. I arrived for the 2 p.m. wine tasting which was hosted under a beautiful outside pavillion open to the summer warm air…and for our afternoon, cover from a quick burst of rain. Guests were given a brief history of the vineyard and we were on our way to a fun lesson on the Truro Vineyards bottled wines. There are some “Limited Release” wines as well as the popular, Lighthouse Series, which come in a cool bottle that looks like a lighthouse. I like that some of the wines even use some of the proceeds of their sales to save the local North Atlantic White Whale.
With your ticket for the tasting, you get a nice “Truro Vineyards” wine glass (which you get to keep as a souvenir) and the opportunity to try 5 of the 10 wines they produce at the vineyard. ***HINT: If you do the tasting with a friend you can “team drink” and share the 10 by each choosing 5 different wines and really see what you like.
Stephanie, our wine expert who led us through the tasting, was easy to hear and told us about each wine in a clear informative manner. She seemed to really enjoy sharing her knowledge both about the vineyard and the wine it produces. The tasting was completely full but they run them every 1/2 hour so even if you had to wait for the next one, your wait would not be long. The ticket price is $10. When you finish the tasting you can wander through the gift shop or sit under the beautiful trees out front and eat something delicious from Crushpad Food Truck. The truck is open daily and run by the local Truro Blackfish Restaurant. There is also a cocktail shack in the same area where you can order another favorite glass of wine or try their new rum which on a return trip, I want to try and bring a designated driver. 🙂 The Vineyard’s new rum, Twenty Boat Spiced Rum is produced in their distillery, South Hollow Spirits. It’s made from organic molasses and cane sugar juice which is steeped in spices sourced from Atlantic Spice Company in Truro. (Which is also a fun place to visit, right down the road).
So, if you want to take a leisurely drive and head toward Provincetown, be sure to stop by and take a look at Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod. Say “Hi!” to Stephanie!
