Man became lost after his dog took off into the woods… [VIDEO]
BARNSTABLE – When rescuers finally located a Barnstable man, both he and his dog were caught up in thick briars.

Earlier tonight Barnstable Police received a call regarding a man who had become lost after dark in the woods near Maushop Ave.
The older man was trying to find his dog which had just took off and entered a large wooded area not far from his home.
Barnstable Police were able to eventually pinpoint the man’s cell phone near an address on Maushop Ave. Using a police siren, they were able to affirm they were near to the man.
Patrolman Scott Leger, along with members of the Barnstable Fire Department, entered the woods and located the man caught up in a large dense briar patch made up tall raspberry and pricker vines.
At one point, first responders thought they would need to cut the man out. But that didn’t prove necessary after first responders lit up the area and toughed it out, managing to trample an adequate path out of the briar jungle. It was not easy going.
While waiting for rescuers to return with the lost man, firefighters were attending to the man’s dog.
Firefighters carefully removed thorns and prickers from the dog. They also treated the dog’s owner for a scratch on his face. Other than that, both the man and his dog were now safe and sound.
Patrolman Leger gave the man and his best friend a ride back to his nearby home.
HN NOTE: Because of modern cell phone technology, police were able to locate the man relatively quickly… years ago a similar situation may have turned into a much longer ordeal…
