In a separate news brief:

HYANNIS — A woman was taken into custody behind the Sam Diego’s restaurant on Route 132 Tuesday afternoon, after police received a report of a “white” female and “Hispanic” male fleeing with stolen merchandise from the Kohl’s department store at 65 Independence Drive.

The male, Brunno H. Lacerda, was also detained a short distance away on Enterprise Road. Lacerda was then set free after Kohl’s loss prevention officers told police they wanted the woman instead of him. The woman was transported back to Kohl’s where she was trespassed, with loss prevention gathering information in order to take out their own charges against the suspect in court. The unidentified female reportedly had taken at least two pairs of jeans…

A short time later, police spoke with a mother and her son… Lacerda was reportedly involved in a separate incident near the intersection of Bearses Way and Quaker Road. According witness statements, Lacerda used a wooden pole to attack the young male. The male was not injured, but Brunno H. Lacerda, age 29, was arrested and charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

The pole was secured as evidence and placed in the trunk of a BPD squad car.
