VIDEO: Man allegedly threatened auto garage with hammer… arrest made soon thereafter… alcohol may have been involved…
HYANNIS – A man reportedly brought a hammer into a local auto repair garage and threatened some of the employees…
… and it may have been a case of mistaken identity.
At about 4pm, police rushed to the garage looking for an irate man wielding a hammer. Upon arrival, officers quickly learned the man had left the area driving a white F150 pickup truck.
According to sources, the man was highly intoxicated and apparently falsely believed the shop may have employed individuals from the Middle East, specifically Iran or Iraq. For some deluded reason, the man with the hammer was said to be mistakenly angry with the auto garage, confusing it with other businesses in the area that may employ individuals from the Middle East…
HN spoke with the shop owner and he was stunned by the man’s behavior. He does not employ anyone from the Middle East, and did not understand why that would matter in the first place. He also said the irate man had been to the garage another time earlier in the day. At one point the man even took a couple of swings at him, but missed.
Employees at the garage were alarmed, but no one was injured.
[At the owner’s request, HN is withholding the name of the business as they were the victims in today’s crime…]
Officers obtained an address from the vehicle’s license number. About a half hour after the initial call, three patrolmen entered an unsecured apartment door at 185 Stevens Street where they encountered the suspect and placed him under arrest.
Michael David Keaveney, age 50, of Hyannis, was transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Assault By Means of a Dangerous Weapon (a hammer). He was also held in protective custody due to his high level of intoxication.
The following video shows surveillance footage of the suspect entering the auto garage carrying a hammer, which he had just picked up off the ground after dropping it. The second part of the video shows HN footage of the suspect being led out of the apartment at 185 Stevens Street after being arrested on a felony charge.

Patrick Desmarais, a weekend Talk Show Host with 95.1 FM WXTK, took the following photo which shows a pile of snow in the Home Depot parking lot. The photo was captured on May 3rd. It’s an unusual image for this time of year.
Will this pile of snow last until June? What day will it finally be completely melted? It’s a lingering reminder of a harsh winter. Does anyone miss the snow? If so, you can still find it in at least one particular parking lot in HyTown.
