*** WATCH *** MARSTONS MILLS BLAZE: Woman’s body discovered, described as a “police matter…” [UPDATED]
UPDATE – 3/7/22 – 4:00PM: The victim killed in last evening’s fire has been identified as Noreen Falzone, age 62, according to on scene and online sources. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but does not appear suspicious. “The investigation determined that the point of origin was between the basement and first floor at the front of the single-story home,” officials said in a Massachusetts Department of Fire Services statement Monday afternoon. “I want to extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones as they confront this tragedy,” said Chief Winn of the COMM FD. “As we investigate the exact cause of last night’s fire, I also want to remind everyone in the community that working smoke alarms and home escape plans are some of the most valuable tools in surviving a fire.”
The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department, Barnstable Police Department, State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, and State Police assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office.

INITIAL HN REPORT:
MARSTONS MILLS – The State Fire Marshal’s Office, along with local officials, were on scene investigating the charred remains of a home after flames tore through that occupied building Sunday evening.
At around 8:00 p.m. last evening, Barnstable Police and COMM Firefighters came upon a fully involved house fire at 118 Lakeside Drive. As you will hear in the following HN Video, upon making entry, a crew discovered a victim inside. The victim was removed and the situation was then described as a “police matter…” and the State Fire Marshal’s Office was immediately notified. (Note: There has been no official word on the victim’s current condition…)
HN arrived after the fire had been knocked down. It was a very active investigation scene at that point. Multiple members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office were on scene sifting through the ashes. Members of the state police were on scene. Barnstable Police investigators and COMM Fire officials also remained on scene assisting in the investigation.
A trained K9 and what appeared to be a state police handler entered the building once things had cooled down…
The following HN Video contains actual emergency radio transmissions of police and firefighters arriving to battle the blaze. It contains reader images, including a little bit of video of flames bursting out through the roof of the structure. The video contains numerous HN images, including some that show where fire completely burned through the outer wall of the home, making a gaping hole that appears like it could have been a doorway instead of an outer wall… investigators spent a good deal of time sifting through ashes in that area of the devastating scene.
No further details at the time of this report. HN will provide official updates as they become available…
