Message from Hyannis News… plus additional news briefs…
Dear Hyannis News reader,
It’s time for my annual summer assignment to the outer beaches of the Cape’s National Seashore, chumming swimming areas for great whites, while catching up on my ongoing series of in-depth investigative reports from the insides of my very own eyelids… camera nearby, soaking in the sun, patiently waiting for the Holy Grail of photojournalism, the midsummer shark attack!
For the upcoming ten days or so, the Hyannis News desk will be in the capable hands of Kristy’s Korner and JT’s Chronicles, with the possibility of additional reports from our elusive Gonzo team (That’s if we’re able to first find out where they’re currently being incarcerated, and whether or not they may be bailed or furloughed long enough to meet their HN obligations – keeping them sober presents an entirely different set of challenges, wish us luck and stay tuned…).
Thank you for your ongoing readership.

Motorist arrested after threatening to kick plainclothes officer’s rear-end…
HYANNIS – [Top photo] A plainclothes SCU member was on routine patrol in a parking area on North Street when he came across an angry motorist earlier in the week.
The man became enraged with the plainclothes officer while navigating the busy parking lot. Unaware he was dealing with a police officer, a Hyannis man in his late 40’s exchanged words, stating he would kick the officer’s [backside]. He then proceeded to get out of his black convertible, slamming his door into the side of the officer’s unmarked cruiser.
The officer identified himself to prevent the situation from escalating further. The man, although suddenly apologetic, was placed under arrest and transported to BPD Headquarters where he was reportedly to be charged with Injury to Real and Personal Property, as well as Disorderly Conduct, according to sources at the scene…

Police rushed to a possible B&E in progress…

HYANNIS – Patrol officers rushed to a residence near the airport early yesterday morning for what initially appeared to be a possible B&E in progress…
Officers arrived to find that the young men involved had already left the area. There was a language barrier as police tried to find out what had happened.
The residence had been the target of another Breaking and Entering in recent days.
A patrolwoman quickly located and questioned three young men in a nearby parking lot. The young men said they had been out skateboarding. It was approximately 7:30am… Meanwhile, officers back at the scene tried to find out what exactly had occurred.
Update: According to sources, this morning’s incident actually turned out to be the victims believing they saw the three B&E suspects from the previous break in the area of their home. They then called police and the suspects fled the area.
Officers on scene requested ongoing around-the-clock checks of the residence and general area.
The three young men stopped and questioned in the parking area remain suspects in the incident.
The entire incident is currently under investigation by the Barnstable Police.

DELOPING: Pedestrian seriously injured…

HYANNIS – Yesterday at about 4:55pm, Police and Hyannis Rescue rushed to the intersection of Pitcher’s Way and Route 28 for a pedestrian (or possibly a “bicyclist”) down after being struck by a motor vehicle.
According to initial reports from the scene, the person was transported to CCH with serious injuries.
Additional police officers were called in as travel lanes needed to be temporarily shut down. Traffic was delayed in all directions for a relatively brief period.
When HN arrived, police were still investigating the scene.
Further information regarding this incident was unavailable at the time of this report.

Robert Bastille,
P.S. – This morning's HyTown Vignette is brought to you by Ten Years After, depicting powerful images and the tone of the late '60s and early '70s (my childhood)... The song ultimately reflects a time of widespread confusion regarding the issues of the day. The lyrics were written in such a way to be interpreted several different ways... and they most certainly were... Listening to this again, nearly 43 years after, causes one to wonder if today's world is any different. Sometimes Hyannis News would “love to change the world, but I don't know what to do... so I leave it up to you.” In the meantime, I'll continue to point the camera, shoot, and try my best to describe what just happened.
