Narcotic overdoses continue to plague region…
HYANNIS – In the above photo, police and Hyannis Rescue had rushed to an address in the area of West Main Street this afternoon for a reported overdose. It was the second overdose of the afternoon. The first overdose reportedly was definitely due to heroin. Both overdoses involved young women…
Narcan was not necessary in either of today’s apparent overdoses…
In the above photo, a young woman was found unconscious in a bathroom. She had been unconscious for approximately ten minutes…
The patient initially denied having used narcotics, despite nearby evidence to the contrary.
She was conscious when transported to CCH.
Both young women luckily survived today’s overdoses.
HN NOTE: Police departments and EMS have been tracking the frequency of overdoses, however those numbers may be skewed and underrepresented when patients are not forthcoming and honest about what led to them losing consciousness… but in most cases, first responders are able to discern whether or not an overdose was likely.
On a more cautiously optimistic note, HN had observed a slight decline in Hyannis ODs in recent weeks… but overdoses tend to happen in waves and there have been several Hyannis overdoses over the past couple days.
It’s difficult watching our young women harming themselves with dangerous drugs. But HN has observed cases where young women have mustered incredible strength and been able to stay clean. It is possible and does happen. The young recovering women I know, not only look much healthier, they report more happiness and fulfillment, that simply was not available while using. It’s also important to note that when looking back, these women value the tremendous difficulty of their journey in recovery. It wasn’t easy, but they are grateful for having learned they are in fact much stronger than they had ever believed or thought possible prior to using drugs.
Bottom line: It’s never too late to do something creative, productive, worthwhile, and beautiful with the life God has given you. And the great thing about that fact is only you get to decide what that is…
