OUI TRIFECTA: Hyannis man racks up third drunk driving charge after colliding with liquor store barricade… [Arrest Video]
The Hyannis Package Store has erected barricades to prevent booze-bags from smashing through its front windows… something that has happened on more than one occasion…
… in HyTown, liquor store barricades “take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’…”
Which was the case today at about 12:30pm (yes, you read correctly, 12:30pm!) … when witnesses reportedly watched a Hyannis man give the metal fortified store barriers a run for their money…
After a sharp crack from his trusty Honda Accord …
… and despite a healthy running start, the barricades barely budged… (Note: the tilted barrier in the above photo was caused by a different booze-bag from another day…)
…frustrated, our local power luncher decided it was time to “make like a tree and get the [heck] out of there…” and drunk-drive off to another store to purchase booze… possibly in search of one without pesky barricades…
… and according to witnesses, he did a poor job making his escape and was reportedly all over the road… a determined drunken idiot driving through several of HyTown’s thickly settled family neighborhoods in his all-important midday quest for the elusive drive-in package store…
Somewhere in his alcohol flooded brain, our inebriated hell-bent motorist remembered a place across town without barricades… The Willow Tree Market has a drive-through window… not exactly a drive-in packie, but when you’re bleep-faced and racking up collisions, who has time to be picky?
But thanks to at least one alert good Samaritan, police were notified of the drunk driver’s every reckless maneuver on his way across town… the jig was up for Sponge-Bob Crash-Pants…
… the cops had been notified and were closing in like white on rice…
Unmarked Fords, Harleys with blue lights, and nicely painted squad cars arrived to pay today’s “drunken hero on a last chance power drive” a personal visit…
Needless to say, cops quickly tested him and arrested him…
The good Samaritan and police did their job… but now will the courts?
But don’t drunk drivers usually learn their lesson after their first appearance before our sobering Barnstable Court System? The courts, after all, have the community’s best interest in mind at all times… right?
Well lets take a closer look, shall we?
Guessing, and based on the effectiveness of our courts… and in a perfect world where black-robed protectors of justice actually rise to the occasion and keep the rest of us safe… a drunk driver, especially a reckless one, will face the full extent of the law… right?
Personally, I’m not so sure… it seems our courts are barely as effective as they would hopefully want to be…
In the case of today’s crash-test-booze-hound, this will NOT be the first time he has darkened the prisoner entrance to one of our district courts…
In fact, today was his third OUI arrest… and actually the second one this year.
According to sources, he was arrested and found guilty of OUI back in 2002… and what happened between then and now is anyone’s guess… but one thing is certain, 2014 has been a bad year thus far.
Today’s suspect is still awaiting trial on an OUI arrest from this past January… including today’s performance, that’s a total of three OUI arrests that we know about…
I hope this is his last… family neighborhoods and local package stores, with or without barricades, hope this is his last!
But knowing what I know about our local courts, and the scarcity of competent Judges, I remain cautiously pessimistic…
But I digress…
Arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, and Operating After Suspension of a License, Luis Aucacama, age 33, of Hyannis, was transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters for booking…
Both good Samaritans and police did their job today… now will our local court system also please rise to occasion?
