A LOOK AT POLICEWORK: Backup called… loud disorderly man taken into custody… needed to be pepper sprayed… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS – At about 1:40AM this morning, a patrolman on Main Street radioed that he needed backup.
Additional units arrived moments later.
HN arrived when a man was on the ground yelling loudly at the police.
The man was handcuffed and arrested… and while walking to an awaiting cruiser he continued to be loud and disorderly, digging his feet in and resisting… The man was pepper sprayed after he continued to refuse to get into the cruiser. Police gave him plenty of warning. After being sprayed, the man complied and there was no further incident.
HN NOTE: When police place you under arrest you do not have the right to become disorderly and resist. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty and we have a court system to decide whether or not an arrest is warranted. Once placed under arrest you are in police custody and it’s in your best interest to go along peacefully and not rack up additional charges.
The following video shows police acting according to their training. In this area of Cape Cod, we are very fortunate to have exceptionally well trained and professional police. They are patient and put up with a lot of verbal abuse. They are trained to endure a litany of difficult situations. They are also given tools like pepper spray and Tasers to help them keep everyone safe in volatile situations.
By eventually needing to use pepper last evening, officers sidestepped a situation where they may have had to physically force the suspect into the vehicle… which would have been dangerous for everyone involved, including the arrested suspect…
The following video shows officers dealing with an unruly suspect and sticking to their training. It was “textbook.”
In short, a person does not have a right to resist or in anyway interfere with our police officers when they are effecting an arrest.

Please cooperate with our police officers. It makes it easier on everyone… and if you’re considering becoming a police officer yourself someday, take a close look at the above video as it is a situation you will likely routinely deal with in the course of your patrols. Our area always needs good men and women… but having said that, it’s not an easy job… and it certainly is not for everyone.
