SUCCESSFUL SEARCH AND RESCUE: Man with Alzheimer’s safe after spending night in the woods… [VIDEO]
BREWSTER – GOOD NEWS! A Brewster man is home safe and sound with family after a massive search effort involving numerous regional and state resources.
Brewster Police and Fire Department, DCR, Massachusetts State Police and their Air Wing, Environmental Police, Barnstable County K-9, and numerous agencies were out looking for a missing person in the area of Higgins Pond Rd and Nickerson State Park today.
Missing was “Tom,” a 65 year old male, 5’10” and weighing approximately 220 lbs. A discription was released by the Brewster PD… The man was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black sweatshirt with a gray stripe and work boots. He was described as having gray hair and a beard.
“Tom” walked away from the Higgins Pond Area of Brewster at approximately 8pm last evening 8/25/15.
At about 12:00PM today, officials called in additional search resources from across Cape Cod and Southeaster Massachusetts. Search and rescue resources began to meet at a command post set up near the entrance to Nickerson State Park in Brewster. Rescue teams briefly reviewed maps of the area and coordinated their response.
After several hours, a rescue team located the man in the woods. He was evaluated by medics and is now reportedly home safe and sound with family. The man reportedly suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Police resources were also working with the family at the time of this report, introducing a bracelet program and other resources to ensure the man’s future safety and well being…
Overall, it was a well coordinated rescue effort which successfully reunited a local man with his loved ones.
