SWAT called to end standoff…
West Barnstable — What started out as a violent crime in progress turned into something quite different…

At approximately 9:30pm multiple Barnstable Police squad cars rushed to 282 Parker Road for what was described as a home invasion in progress.
While responding, officers were told that possibly four home invaders had climbed in through an open window…
… at another point officers were told one of the armed home invaders may have been with one of the victims in a bedroom.
There was scuffling and screaming… but as far as this being an actual ‘home invasion,’ something didn’t add up.

Dispatchers overheard a female saying that nobody was in the house after all… It turns out she was the girlfriend of the young man who was on the phone with police.
Dispatch officers tried to get the reporting party to put his girlfriend on the phone but he would not cooperate. They wanted to have the girlfriend come to the door to meet with officers…
Police began to wonder if the situation was related to drug intoxication or mental illness.
The interior lights were suddenly shut off as officers began to surround the residence.
The reporting young man, his father, and his girlfriend were said to be the only people inside the residence… and officers were unable to get the cooperation they needed out of any of them.
Police and the occupants were now in a standoff situation.

Members from all over the Cape responded as the regional SWAT team assembled.

A police negotiator was also called in to the scene.

Phone contact was eventually reestablished…

About two hours into the standoff, officers radioed they were able to get one of the occupants to exit the building. After another 15 minutes officers radioed that everyone was now safely outside the residence.

It’s not entirely certain what caused tonight’s standoff…
… it did, however, end peacefully.

Unofficially, it was theorized tonight’s drama may have been caused by some powerful illicit drug such as bath salts.
It’s possibly the reporting party became paranoid, thinking he had seen something that wasn’t completely grounded in reality.
According to unofficial sources, no arrests were made.
