THE BPD GETS THEIR MAN: 5 hour Hytown foot pursuit ends in murky marshlands… officer hurt in last ditch effort to take down suspect… [DRAMATIC HN VIDEO]
UPDATE: According to documents filed in Barnstable District Court, Edward Dodge, age 32, of Harwich was charged with the following:
1. Possession to Distribute a Class A Drug (after 4 grams of heroin was allegedly seized from the vehicle).
2. A&B on a Police Officer Causing Serious Bodily Injury
3. A&B on a Police Officer
4. Resisting Arrest
5. Resisting Arrest
$1450.00 was also seized during the arrest after the cash was allegedly found folded and tucked into a separate wallet compartment from three one dollar bills which were kept in the normal bill fold compartment. Officers found this to be suspicious, as it could possibly indicate the suspect was keeping his drug money separate.
Foil with alleged heroin residue was also seized and entered as evidence.
Bail was set at $500…

Initial HN Coverage:
HYANNIS – An officer was hurt in a last ditch effort to take down a fleeing suspect who eluded police for over 5 hours earlier today.
A short time before 2:00 PM, a Barnstable Patrolman was investigating a suspicious pickup truck in the Oak Grove Cemetery on Sea Street when a male suspect suddenly fled on foot.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video (which is long, but packed with action… with the best part at the end where officers finally get their man…) there was some confusion at first as responding officers tried to understand garbled radio transmissions in an effort to locate the officer who was in hot pursuit.
A Yarmouth Police K-9 Unit was called in as numerous officers endured the oppressive heat trying to track down and at times chasing the young male suspect through backyards and side streets for over 5 hours.
And as you will see and hear, persistence and patience paid off as patrol officers once again flushed out their suspect shortly before 7:00 PM… but this time he wasn’t getting away. Two patrolmen and a detective dogged the man down a Hytown side street, chasing him straight into a mucky salt water marsh at the end of Marsh Lane.
A patrolman suffered a nasty hand wound during the take down but still managed to effect the arrest.
Officers were wet and covered with mud. The injured officer was transported to CCH for emergency treatment. The suspect was hauled out of the murky marsh and delivered to police headquarters for booking.
According to radio transmissions the suspect was wanted for drug charges… but it’s uncertain what the final tally will actually be in this case. The suspect’s truck was processed and towed from the scene.
