The ugliness of narcotics…
Centerville – Several Barnstable Police Officers surrounded a black Mercedes in the parking lot of 7-Eleven on Route 28 this afternoon…

A retired Barnstable Police Officer called to report a vehicle driving erratically and what he thought was evidence of drug activity…
Upon arrival at the parking lot, the male driver immediately jumped out and entered the store… while a female was reportedly “passed out” in the passenger seat…
Police searched the vehicle and found needles and other drug paraphernalia… However, they were unable to locate any significant amount of drugs…
The driver was known to police and taken in on an outstanding warrant…

The female passenger was sent on her way after being questioned by police…
Note: Today’s female passenger was particularly worried about having her photo taken in association with the reality of the circumstances… She was a young attractive woman and in some respects it was refreshing she cared enough to not want her face on camera… I only hope she uses today’s contact with police to clean up her act before she winds up permanently on the ugly side of narcotic abuse, which aside from the rare recovery, usually leads to either incarceration or death. I don’t always take the time to blur the photos of suspects involved with dangerous drugs and the crimes surrounding them… especially those who shoot up and drive around through school zones right when children are being dismissed. But there was a hint of worry in the young woman’s face… I could be wrong, but she did not strike me as a hardened addict. Hardened addicts are not afraid of anything… Maybe today was a wake-up call for this young lady. It’s rare, but it does happen, a person not too far gone turning her life around… It takes reaching out and the desire to get the hell away from bad influences and active users… I’ve seen it happen a handful of times, where someone wakes up just in the nick-of-time… But more too often I’ve seen addicts die… Regardless, I doubt I’ll take the time to blur her photo if there is a ‘next time.’
