Top photo: A Barnstable Patrolman and his K-9 partner conducted a search for a man who fled the scene of a fight where a victim was said to have been repeatedly kicked in the face by more than one attacker in the area of Embargo on Main Street in Hyannis this past weekend. The above photo was taken not long after the patrolman arrested one of the attackers for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. The patrolman suddenly came on the radio announcing that he had one under arrest and that a second suspect had fled the area. Other BPD squad cars descended on the area to assist…

Above photo: HYANNIS — Yesterday afternoon, Barnstable Police responded to the woods on Old Colony Road near the intersection of Nantucket Street for a report of a group of homeless individuals fighting. The area in the photo is a notorious for homeless camps on both sides of Old Colony Road. The young men running in the photo are students at nearby Pope John Paul II High School. Police were unable to locate the individuals causing the disturbance, but it’s important to note that these homeless camps abut the playing fields of Pope JP II High School… fields that host many well attended after school activities for both the high school and neighboring Saint Francis Xavier elementary school. These particular homeless camps are known havens for substance abuse and violence. It’s not unusual for the authorities to occasionally haul dead bodies out of these woods. It is not safe for children of any age to be playing near to these unsanitary camps. Barnstable Police, in conjunction with other town employees, have been known to occasionally enter the woods, taking down tents and clearing out the area. It was reported to HN that the camps are once again very active and littered with tents. If left unchecked, it’s just a matter of time before something happens…

Above photo: YARMOUTH — Fellow troopers, a Yarmouth Patrolwoman, and Yarmouth Rescue responded to the Mobil gas station on Station Ave after a state trooper called for assistance while making an arrest last evening. The trooper was not injured, but an irate individual was taken to the ground and later checked out by rescue after reportedly becoming aggressive toward the trooper. State troopers often field calls and do their job in situations where they are far away from or isolated from other troopers. When a trooper calls for backup, the biggest concern is who can get to him the quickest…
