Two injured in West Barnstable motorcycle crash… [Video]

West Barnstable – Hyannis News actually witnessed a motorcycle crash today on Route 6A in West Barnstable. At 2:41pm I was approaching the West Barnstable Cemetery near the intersection of Route 149. I did not see the collision, but I did see a motorcycle turn sideways spilling both riders onto the pavement. Emergency services were immediately contacted, as myself and others rushed to the aid of the bikers. Scary moments as both bikers were on the pavement not moving. The male eventually came to and began to sit up but seemed disoriented. To prevent further injuries, we tried to stop him from getting to his feet and lifting his Harley up off the ground. He seemed to be possibly in shock as he began to repair the windshield on his motorcycle.
An unknown female was assisting the female passenger, keeping her calm and still. I briefly spoke with the female to assess whether she knew what had just happened. She was alert but in pain. Her right arm had some signs of trauma, possibly a fracture. She was urged to remain very still and stay on the ground. (I think it’s important here to note that I have previous experience as first responder and that I didn’t begin taking photos until after both patients where in good capable hands…)
Emergency vehicles could be heard approaching in the distance and I needed to direct and clear out out traffic to keep the lane open for West Barnstable Rescue workers. Police arrived and took over directing traffic.
The young male driver of a green Toyota Prius was clearly shaken up and remorseful, saying he had been about to make a turn when the accident occurred. The female passenger of the Prius was in tears and clearly concerned for the well being of the bikers.
The male operator of the motorcycle had facial injuries and was eventually convinced to lie down an a back board.
Both bike passengers were transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
It is still uncertain who may have caused this crash or whether anyone was “at fault.” The accident is under investigation by veteran Officer Coggshall of the Barnstable Police.
