HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — Barnstable Police have released an update on Officer Peter Ginnetty, a 19-year veteran who was struck by a motor vehicle Sunday, September 13, 2026, while assisting with pedestrian traffic. The officer was hit by an accused drunk driver and suffered several serious injuries, including multiple broken bones and a significant injury to his right leg.

The Barnstable Police Department released this official statement today:

“The Barnstable Police Department would like to provide an update on the officer who was struck by a motor vehicle on Sunday September 13, 2026 while assisting with pedestrian traffic. Officer Peter Ginnetty, a 19-year veteran, sustained several serious injuries, including multiple broken bones and a significant injury to his right leg. Officer Ginnetty remains positive and will face a long recovery ahead.

We ask that everyone continues to keep Officer Ginnetty and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time. The support shown by the community has been heartfelt and is deeply appreciated. Our priority remains supporting Officer Ginnetty and his family throughout the recovery process.”
